Public Opinion and Public Affairs Research

Under the Ipsos Public Affairs brand, we have been providing solutions for clients in the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors for over 20 years.

We offer political and business leaders research on social issues and the attitudes and behaviours of citizens and consumers based not only on public opinion research, but also often on elite stakeholder, corporate, and media opinion research. Our specialist teams conduct political climate surveys, voting intentions forecasts, and measure public opinion on a variety of issues.

Ipsos Public Affairs is organised around four sectors of activity: Corporate & Reputation Research; Government & Public Services Research; Political & Election Research; and Social & Trends Research.

Ipsos Markinor has been offering political research solutions to governments, corporations, NGOs and the public for the last 30 years. Our consummate interest stems from our commitment to a democratic South Africa. We focus on the local but, as part of Ipsos, we form part of a global network and have international leverage. Our political analyst, Mari Harris, is highly regarded and regularly featured in the media.

Apart from ad-hoc tailor-made solutions, we conduct independent and autonomous socio-political surveys biannually, with additional surveys in election years. A standard sample size of 3 500 respondents is used.

Respondents are representative of the entire adult South African population. They share their notions and perceptions on service delivery and reform. They inform us of their fears, hopes and aspirations. Survey findings are published in the Socio-political Trends Report and the Government Performance Barometer, which pertains to attitudes towards government’s key performance areas. We combine research findings with expert analysis underpinned by the context that has shaped the national psyche.
